Smokers

There is no appeal to smoking. Yet so many kids start smoking. I find the rate of teenage smokers has gone down significantly. I see this taking my daughter to school and bringing her home. When I was a teenager, every fifth kid had a cigarette in their hand walking home. Thank God!   But let’s get back to those kids who, for whatever reason, decided to start such a disgusting habit that will make them sick, that will ruin their teeth, and that will isolate them from others who do not smoke. What do people say about kids when they’re grown-ups when they get sick. “Well they kind of did it to themselves “. Did they? Can children make decisions for themselves? The answer to that is definitely no. I admit I get the stack from Dr. Phil, but according to him, and adolescent brain is not mature until as late as 25. They signed a contract before the age of 18 with the devil that is cigarettes.  A contract for their life. Anyone under the age of 18 can’t sign a contract or if so can I go into effect until the individual is 18 years of age. They need an executor, a parent, when making any kind of legal decisions. I’m digressing. Why did they start smoking? Because their friends were? People talk about peer pressure, if that means following the crowd then OK. But it doesn’t seem like people are “pressured” to smoke.   It was a mistake they made on their own and their friends did the same. Now they are adults.

Adults, can make reasonable decisions for themselves and in general. At least you would think they would I can’t speak for everyone. I’m sure there’s a lot of people who shouldn’t be in charge of making decisions even if they are an adult but again I’m digressing. The ability to stop what is in a habit but an addiction is almost impossible for an adult. The child they were made that decision that the adult now has to pay for. People thinking that smokers deserve it, don’t understand that they didn’t do it. A child did it. When a child does something illegal it can be expunged from their record.   Well these children broke the law. Individuals are not allowed to purchase or smoke or give a cigarette to a friend unless under every circumstance they are 18 years old. Yet, there is no way to expunge what an under age child did with their health.

I’m not quite sure what I’m trying to say, and,  I think I’m saying more than one thing. I apologize if my thoughts seem all over the place. They are. Smoking takes away your appetite ruining your digestive system. Keeps you on edge. Gives you headaches because of restricted bloodflow as it affects your blood vessels, your circulatory system, and yes, the big horrible C that is staring them in the face every single day. Impending doom real as the face on your head.   And when that fear strikes, they get so nervous they just light up. This makes it even worse and the vicious cycle doesn’t end. Don’t judge smokers. Feel badly for them.
